Obituary for Alexander F. Hieber
Al F. Hieber, age 74, of Newport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022.
Al was born and raised in Philadelphia. He was a Vietnam Veteran where he served 4 years in the Coast Guard. While serving in the Coast Guard, Al was security in the waters off the coast of Miami for President Richard Nixon who had a vacation home there. Al later went on to work as a security supervisor. In 2005 he received an award for saving the lives of several people from a runaway train.
Al's hobbies included carpentry. He enjoyed building furniture and bird houses. He also loved fishing, yardwork, and spending time with his family. Al was a life long Philadelphia Eagles fan.
He is preceded in death by his son, Chris Wilson, who passed in 1999; and his parents, Eugene and Genevieve Hieber.
Al is survived by his wife of 38 years Patricia (Kemske) Hieber; daughters, Stacey Rodriguez, Dawn Hieber and Crystal Correll; sons, Michael Hieber and Jesse Wilson; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, where the visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be private.
Masks are preferred but not required.
