Obituary for Eelke (Elly) Charwick

Print
Eelke (Elly) Charwick, of Talleyville, DE, died on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the age of Ninety One.

Elly leaves behind her loving husband of sixty seven years, Anthony; three daughters and their husbands- Mary and George Vernon, Cynthia and Ian Bland, Anita and Ken Boie; two grandchildren, Sarah and George A. Vernon; sister, Dirkie Siebel, brother Fritz Smits, together with relatives in the U.S.A and the Netherlands.

Elly enjoyed a full life. She was born and raised in the Netherlands, living through the war years there. In 1953 she married her seafaring husband, sailing with him on the first super tanker. In 1954 she immigrated to the U.S.A. where she attained her citizenship. As a family she moved to and lived in many countries, as her husband took on assignments.

During that period, Elly managed to learn and use five different languages. After Anthony’s retirement, they settled in Delaware where she served as a docent at the Amstel House for many years.

Elly was a beautiful person both physically and socially. We love and miss her very much. We will keep her in our fondest memories- ALWAYS.

Elly will be interred in the Veteran Cemetery at Bear, DE at a private service.
