Life story

Eunice "Eleanor" Richardson Martin was born on January 30, 1935, to parents' Noel Stratford and Anna Elaine Richardson in the town of Sandy Point on the Island of St. Christopher (St Kitts), BWI. She was baptized on March 22, 1935 at St Anne's Church in Sandy Point, St Kitts. Eleanor became a member of this Lutheran Church and it is where she professed her faith in God. Eleanor attended Sandy Point Government Girls' Elementary School until she moved to St Thomas, West Indies at the age of 14. There, she attended and graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School.

After graduation from high school, she started working with her best friend, Florence Hall at The Risisse Pharmacy in St. Thomas. Two years later, in 1956, Eleanor journeyed to the United States and settled into a place on Faile Street in the Bronx, New York. She landed a job at New York Hospital in Manhattan as an administrative clerk. While at New York Hospital she worked her way up the ranks and she eventually became a Registered Nurse in the operating room in the E.N.T. department after graduating from Queensborough Community College. While working in the operating room she assisted in operating on celebrities, Presidents and other politicians such as Richard Nixon and Nelson Rockerfeller. She worked at New York Hospital for 47 years. In 1998 she was honored for being the longest living employee at the hospital before she retired in August 2001.

On September 30, 1967, Eleanor married Victor Martin in Brooklyn, NY. This union was blessed with a daughter Sydney Victoria and a son Thane Christopher. Eleanor worked very hard to provide a good life for her children. She stressed the importance of education to her kids and made sure she taught them how to be financially savy. They lived in Rochdale Village in Queens, NY for many years and after retirement she settled her family into a home in Laurelton, Queens NY. There she lived until 2010 when she moved to Wilmington, Delaware with her son and his family. While living in Delaware she enjoyed her daily walks to her favorite stores, The Christmas Tree shop and Trader Joes. She became a member of Grace Episcopal Church and attended mass there often. She eventually setteled into a retirement community at Shipley apartments in Wilmington, DE, that was only 5 minutes away from her son's house. In this retirement community, Eleanor gained new friends, participated in daily activites, shopping trips and attended church with Minister Mandi.

Eleanor loved to travel and view architecture specifically new homes. For many years she traveled to many countries and loved cruising through various seas throughout the world. She loved to tell stories about the places she visited and the numerous experiences she had while traveling the world with her family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and smile.

On November 10, 2022 Eleanor peacefully transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her son, Thane and his family. She was predeceased by her Father Noel, Mother Anna Elaine, daughter Sydney, her younger sisters Shirley and Juliette and her niece Sandra. She is survived by her sister Eslyn, son Thane, daughter in law Jacqueline, her grandchildren Thane Jr and Epani-Jade, her nephews Darien, Dariel, Edmead (Boysie), Dion, and Dwight, and her nieces Angela, Yvette, Debora, Despi, Delores, Faye, Desiree, and Tammy as well as many great nephew nieces and cousins. May she rest in eternal peace until we meet again.
