It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Safety Officer Fred Shewbrooks. He was 92.
Fred joined the fire company in 1947. He served in many capacities thru the years. Vice president, financial secretary, safety officer, fire prevention, and training. He was also a Delaware State Fire School Instructor.
Fred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor. Two sons, Thomas (wife, Victoria) and David. Two grandchildren, Carrie Donaldson (husband, Bob) and Andrew Shewbrooks (wife, Kara) and two great grandchildren, Karly Lynn Shewbrooks and Aubrie Renee Donaldson.
Fred devoted his life to the fire service and to Five Points Fire Co. in particular.
He will be remembered as "Fireman Fred" by the many now grown up children who attended his fire prevention classes either at the fire house or at Mrs. Faux's preschool.
Fred can rest easy. His giving back to the community has earned him his place in Heaven.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, October 23 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804.
Burial will be at 11 am at Gracelawn Memorial Park on Saturday, October 24.
Masks must be worn and social distancing enforced including maximum of 60 people in the funeral home at one time.
