Obituary for Fredric Della Valle

Fredric Della Valle, a Philadelphia native and resident of Bear, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from respiratory complications secondary to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Fred was born in South Philadelphia in 1936 to a family of Italian immigrants. He married his wife, Frances, on Groundhog Day in 1963, to avoid having to wait until the end of the Lenten season for their wedding. Fred became the cheerful father of two children, Joseph and Rosemary. He worked for over forty years as a manager at a manufacturing plant in Broomall, Pennsylvania, and was happily retired at 65. He enjoyed local sports, vacations to the shore, and watching Westerns, but his great love was bowling; he was a competitive bowler with many trophies and awards. Fred’s children remember his as jovial, recalling that he woke up singing in the morning, and hummed tunes all day until he went to bed.

In the early 2000’s, Fred was diagnosed with lymphoma, a disease which ran in his family and had claimed his sister, Rosalie, over twenty years prior. His family is grateful to have had many more years with him than might have been expected. In 2013, Fred and Francis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Fred is remembered with great love by his wife Frances, brother Vincent, children Rosemary and Joseph, and his grandchildren, Laurel, Caleb and Darwin.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 2 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 10 am. Burial will be private.
