Jacqueline Barbara “Jackie” Selby

Jacqueline B. “Jackie” Selby, was born on March 5, 1941, to the late John and Ethel Selby in Wilmington, Delaware where Jacqueline was the youngest of 15 children. Jacqueline peacefully transitioned at the age of 81 on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care in Newark, Delaware. After the passing of all of her siblings, she was the matriarch and glue that held the Selby family together.

Jacqueline loved playing cards, going to Delaware Park, going to the Grey House, and spending time with her family and friends. When you came to Jacqueline’s home you knew there was going to be good food and fellowship. If you ever needed a place to stay Jacqueline’s home was always open and filled with love. Jacqueline took care of the entire neighborhood and everyone felt at home in her arms.

She was preceded in death by her father John H. Selby, her mother Ethel B. Selby, brothers William & John Selby, sisters Lillian, Alice, & Dorothy Selby, Ruth Simpson, Sarah Jenkins, Marion Black, Lottie Gordon, Shirley Jordan, & Millicent Dobbin, son Melvin W. Selby, step-sons Keith Daniels, and Steven Hackett, son-in-law Troy Taylor, grandsons Tevin Miller, Khy’Re Selby, and Vaughn Covington, brothers-in-law Robert Jenkins, Francis Black, & Thomas Dobbin, and sisters-in-law Ethel Selby & Virginia McDaniel.

Jacqueline is survived by sons Robert (Irene), Wayne (Norma), Sylvester (Sherry) Selby, and John Daniels, daughters Valerie Taylor and Vicki (Eugene) Butler, daughter-in-law Sharon Selby, Step-children Patricia (Milton) Hurth, Karen (George) Flowers, & John Wright, special loved ones Annette Selby, Schnelle Wingate, & Ash Shakoor, special friend James Bate, devoted nieces Sonya Clayton, Tywana Slater, Stephanie & Brandy Selby, and nephew Stephen Selby. She also leaves to be remembered by her 21 grandchildren Boe, Rica, Sherrille, Sharon, Marlene, Iesha, Shonna, Sanette, Richard Jr., Corey, Wayne Jr., Jaquon, Devin, Alexis, Jonee’, Keith, Aaliyah, Kevin, Taneeya, Angel, & Caleb, 32 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. As well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 12 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 907 Centerville Rd, Wilmington, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 8 am. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
