Obituary for John A Mancuso Sr.

John A Mancuso Sr.

Newark - John, age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 11, 2021.

John was born in Port Chester, New York to Concetta (Siclari) and Joseph Mancuso. At age 19, John started his career at Avon Products in Rye, New York. He later met his wonderful wife, Elaine. Together in 1981 they were transferred to the Newark, DE branch of Avon and raised three amazing kids, John Jr, Christopher and Ashley. John eventually retired from Avon after 42 years.

John was an outstanding father and husband. He could always be found driving his son John to a hockey game at 4am in -10 degree weather, helping run his daughter Ashley's Girl Scout troop or helping his son Chris build something for the Science Olympiad. He was an avid lover of all New York sports teams. He also loved playing sports, such as bowling and softball, but he especially loved golfing with his friends like Tommy Patille.

Most of all he just loved being with his family and home with his wife. They never needed to go out on fancy dates and just loved being together and watching their stories. John was blessed with 5 grandchildren, and he especially loved playing games with his oldest granddaughter, Sophia. John was always there for his family and could be leaned on to get any of them through a tough situation with the love that he gave.

John had a number of medical ailments in the last few years of his life, yet he was able to be happy and enjoy much of those years due to the attentive and passionate care of many, including; his doctors Dr. O'Brien, Dr. Vasile, Dr. Reinhardt, Dr. Saad, and Dr. Stillabower; the pharmacists at the College Square ACME Felicia and Tanya; the staff at the Newark Fresenius Kidney Care and the Christiana Care System. Above all, his devoted wife, Elaine, made his care and happiness her top priority.

John is survived by his wife of 45 years Elaine, his children John, Christopher and Ashley, his grandchildren Sophia, Samantha, Logan, Maxwell and Luca, and his brothers and sister Joseph, Michael, Marguerite and Dominick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Society. Services will be private and arrangements are being handled by the Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home. To offer condolences please visit their website at www.nicholsgilmore.com.
