Obituary for Johnnie L. Jones
Johnnie L. Jones, age 85, of Wilmington, formerly of West Brighton Staten Island, NY, and native of Canton, Mississippi, transitioned on Friday, September 16, 2022 at her home.
Johnnie, also affectionately known as, Miss J graduated from Curtis High School in Staten Island in 1956. From 1966-2000 she worked in the Dietary Department at Staten Island Hospital, now known as Staten Island University. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family; especially supporting her granddaughter at karate classes and tournaments.
Miss J is preceded in death by her companion George R. Price III and her mother, Estelle Bilbrew.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Thomas; grandchildren, Olivia Delgado, Lillian Thompson, and Felicity Thompson; and a host of cousins and other extended family. Additionally, Johnnie was loved by her community and all that knew her; many people claimed her as their own grandma.
Services for Miss J will be at 9:30 AM on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804. Visitations will be held from 4:00 - 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 22, 2022 and prior to the service on Friday, September 23, 2022 from 9:00 - 9:30 AM, both taking place at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804. Burial will follow at noon on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Rosehill Cemetery, 792 E. Edgar Road Linden, NJ 07036.
