Obituary for Leo J Carreras

Leo J. Carreras of Wilmington, DE, passed away on December 7, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1932, to Leo M. Carreras and Mary Schnepp, both of whom predeceased him, along with his brother, John M. Carreras.

Leo is survived by his five siblings: Adele Lundquist (David), Virginia Beach, VA; Thomas A. Carreras, Elkton, MD; Paul J. Carreras (GiGi), Canon City, CO; Mary Ann Carreras, Albany, NY; and Joseph E. Carreras (Tina), Valley Center, CA; and Robert Haney, Wilmington.

Leo graduated from Elkton High School, Elkton, MD. Following his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he worked in New York City for Caltex Oil and several law firms. He retired from Schulte, Roth & Zabel to Cecil County, MD, where he was able to enjoy his love of the countryside. Leo loved animals and was always surrounded by cats and dogs. For a good part of his life, he owned several cows and chickens and knew each of them by name. He was like a father to his siblings when their father was unavailable.

To celebrate Leo’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Wilmington, on April 27, 2023, at 10:30 a.m.
