Obituary for Margaret Cassling

On Valentines Day February 14, 2023, Margaret Cassling lost her final battle with cancer. She passed at home in the care of her family; husband, David, and her beloved sister, Diane Montagna whose constant nursing was a true blessing. We also cannot thank enough the devotion and loving care of Delaware Hospice.

Margaret will live in the memory of all who were lucky to have known her. Her down to earth charm, sense of humor and kindness were obvious to all who were touched by her. Margaret's immediate family includes husband of 52 years, David, daughters Diane Garvine and Carolyn Youse, and grandsons Julian Youse (8, mom Carolyn), Domenic D'Aiuto (15, mom Carolyn), and Will Garvine (15, mom Diane ). Grandmother Margaret was always there to play, give council, sew on a button or hem the new jeans for the grandchildren she loved and who loved her mightily in return. Special thanks to the many helpful acts of sons in law JJ Garvine and Jason Youse. We were so lucky to have our daughters living close by. Their loving care and generosity manifested itself in so many ways to include delivering their mom's requests, massages, visits, hugs, and bringing ice cream, soups and delicious meals.

Margaret was a gifted English teacher with years in at Window Rock Elementary School in the Navajo Nation, Delaware Technical Community College, Glasgow High School, and the English Language Institute at University of Delaware. Allow me to quote one of her international students. "Being one of your students is the luckiest and happiest experience... My feelings are beyond my words, but I know I will miss you, dear Margaret." The last eight words beautifully sum up the feelings of her friends and family. Margaret wished that in lieu of flowers you could make a donation in her memory to Delaware Hospice, Meals On Wheels, or your favorite charity. Please take a few moments to remember her in your life.
