Obituary for Rodney Watt

Rodney Watt - father, brother, son, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on August 1st, at the age of 56, after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Rodney will be missed by everyone that knew him. His sense of humor and larger than life personality attracted new friends everywhere. If you knew Rodney, you liked him.
Rod was passionate about the love for his daughter Brittney and Philadelphia Eagles football.

Growing up in Hockessin, Rod was a gridiron and baseball star for the Highlander's of Thomas McKean High School. At 25, Rod packed his bags and moved to northern California, eventually settling in the tiny coastal town of Pacifica, just south of San Francisco. He fell in love and married Mariann Kowlcheck. They welcomed their lovely daughter, Brittney Marie in 1995, his greatest joy.

Rod's passion for cooking landed him a gig as the clubhouse cook for the San Francisco Giants. Rodney cooked pre-game meals for players and Giant greats like Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, and Barry Bonds. For three and a half seasons, (and one MLB AIl-Star game), he cooked the finest food found in any major league baseball clubhouse, bar none.

Life throws curve balls and Rodney eventually moved back to Delaware to help his mother with her health struggle. About 6 months ago he began fighting his own battle which eventually took him. The world lost a lover, a fighter, a friend, a brother, and a father. Rodney is at rest and his worldly pain and suffering are no more.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father Warren Watt Sr. and brothers, Warren Watt Jr. and Earle Watt.
He is survived by his daughter Brittney Marie of Pacifica, CA; mother, Audrey Fenimore Watt of Wilmington, DE; brothers, Jeffrey Warren Watt (MaryEllen) of Hockessin, DE, Andrew Fenimore Watt (Connie) of Pennsylvania, and James Fenimore Watt (Melanie) of Carrollton, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

Services for Rodney will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at The Church of the Holy City, 1118 N. Broom St. Wilmington, DE 19806.
