Obituary for Vera L Cox
Vera L. Cox, age 58, of Newark, DE formerly of Travelers Rest, SC, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
Vera was a 1980 graduate of Travelers Rest High School in South Carolina. She then attended trade school where she became an accomplished seamstress. Vera worked in customer service most recently at Royal Farms and formerly of Domino’s and Maisley company where she made gloves for the military.
Vera loved music, especially Motown and enjoyed playing piano. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed parties and was able to have a conversation with anyone. Vera was an avid reader, her favorites being James Patterson, cookbooks and magazines. She also enjoyed playing FarmVille and watching Law and Order, ID TV and other crime mysteries. Most of all, family was important to Vera and her sons and granddaughters were her pride and joy. She stressed the importance of education and was so proud that both sons were on track to be first generation college graduates. Her granddaughters enjoyed every minute of their time with her and especially loved when she would braid their hair.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, WillIe and Goldie Cox.
Survivors include her sons, Rorey Q. Cox (Megan) and Tajai C. Cox; her brother, Riley L. Cox and her grandchildren, Layla, Gracie and Mia.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:30pm - 1:30pm on Monday, October 12 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804. Masks must be worn and social distancing enforced including maximum of 60 people in the funeral home at one time. Services and Burial will be private.
