Obituary

Henry Mercer Van Pelt, age 84, of Newark, went home to the Lord on April 23, 2021. He was born in Eddystone, Pennsylvania the son of the late Henry F. & Elizabeth E. Van Pelt. He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962. He retired from DuPont in 1995 after 37 years as an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer. Henry loved fishing, playing poker and all Philadelphia sports, especially the Eagles. He was a passionate collector of Tuthill Glass and loved cars, especially Corvettes.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Roberta "Bobbi" Van Pelt, his sister Mae Van Pelt, his daughters Jennifer Scott (John), Diana Herold (Bill) and Becky Van Pelt (Erik); Grandchildren: Meghan, Kyle, Kelsey, Connor, Nathan and Noah; Great Granddaughters: Jordyn and Cali and his beloved cat Zoe.

Visitation will be from 11 am to 12 noon on Wednesday, April 28 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Masks and distancing are required along with a capacity limit in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or Limestone Presbyterian Church.

Bobbi and family I am so so sorry for your loss. I remember Henry fondly and knew the family thru Liz and Steve Hankins. My thoughts and prayers are with the the whole Van Pelt family. Sending my love and a huge hug!!! Jesus is close to the broken hearted. Love, Robin Holubowski

I want to offer my condolences to the Van Pelt family. Especially to Jen the only one a really knew. Jen and I worked at DuPont many years ago. My thought are with you as you deal with your loss. Best to you and the family as you find ways to deal with your loss. Jen, you made an impresstion on me during those days. No mater how our days were going you made work OK. You always kept our projects in order and exceeded our expectation at every turn
